Types of Hair

Hair type is determined by the hair’s natural condition – that is , by the amount of sebum the body produces. Treatment programs such as perming, coloring and heat styling will also have an effect on hair type. Finding out which type of hair you possess is the first step to beautiful hair.
Hair is an inseparable part of your face and adds to your good looks. It is the mirror of your health. If maintained well, it enhances your personality. Hair is the most important indicator of beauty and health and hence, it is worthwhile to spend time and energy to take care of it. Your hair can create an illusion of width or height balancing with the shape of your face making you look and feel better.
Everyone’s hair is as individual as a finger print varying from person to person in terms of color, texture, body and volume. Hair grows from an indentation in the skin called the follicle. At the bottom of the follicle is the dermal papilla and this is where all the action takes place.
Classification of Hair types:
There are four types of hair— Dry, normal, greasy and combination hair.
Normal Hair:
This type of hair has a healthy natural bounce and sheen. It is neither dry nor greasy and is easily manageable.
Dry Hair:
This type of hair is usually caused by external factors such as perming, exposure to excess heat, bleaching, coloring, use of strong shampoos, frequent washing and faulty diet. Dry hair invariably has split ends and is always coarse in texture.
Greasy Hair:
This type of hair is usually caused by hormonal imbalances during adolescence or menopause. Environmental conditions such as weather and humidity also contribute to this problem. This kind of hair looks dull, lank and cannot be styled easily.
Combination hair:
This type of hair is extremely greasy at the scalp and has dry split ends. This condition may be remedied by applying more conditioner at the ends of the hair. It is essential for you to avoid eating fried or spicy food stuffs along with chocolates and sweets.
Hair makes up for almost 60 percent of your looks and it is essential to take proper care of it. You can change the texture of your hair, style it and use appropriate products to enhance it once you have identified your hair type. However, if you are facing any problems such as excessive hair loss or itchy sensation on the scalp, it is recommended that you take expert advice from a dermatologist without any delay.
